Engineering Career Assistance Center Employer Expectations
ECAC Home >> Employers >> Co-op Program >> Employer Expectations

The Co-op Program is a great way for us to cooperatively develop engineers of the future.

To ensure our students receive the best possible experience, please follow the guidelines below.

  • Provide the student with multiple co-op work terms.
Work terms are determined by employer and student, typically based on work needs and student performance.
The work terms can either be alternating or two consecutive semesters (i.e. Spring/Summer or Summer/Fall).

  • Educate students by having them perform technical engineering work relevant to their academic discipline.

  • Provide direct supervision by an engineer.

  • Complete an evaluation form for each semester a student works.
Please try to offer the student constructive criticism so they can really learn from this experience.

  • Maintain communication with the Co-op Office regarding recruitment and student performance.

Students expect...
To get feedback.
The number one complaint of our co-op students is that their supervisor didn't tell them if they were doing a good job.
So please talk to your students!
