While you may find various definitions of “business casual,” keep in mind that for most of you, this will be the employer's first impression of you. Make it a positive one. Below are a few safe guidelines of what to wear when “business casual” is the suggested attire.

Dress Tips for Men:

  • Avoid “loud print” shirts
  • Consider dark-colored slacks with a nice Oxford shirt
  • Dark slacks with solid or bold line shirt
  • Belt and shoes (cleaned and polished) should match
  • Khaki pants, but only if they are ironed and look neat
  • Coats or ties are optional

Dress Tips for Women:

  • Consider wearing a tailored pantsuit
  • Coordinating skirt and blouse
  • Business skirt with appropriate blouse
  • Flats or small-heeled shoes (cleaned and polished) and hose

Note:  The accepted attire for interviews is generally "business professional," which means a suit.
