Thank you for your interest in the Externship Program.
Because
you
are not obligated to participate in Externship until you have selected an
employer to visit, we encourage you to register for the program, even if you are
unsure whether you can participate.
To learn about how to make the most of the Externship visit, consider
attending one of the Externship Information Sessions being held during the months
of October and November.
If you
have any questions, please contact Natalie Clogston,
Externship Coordinator, by email or
by phone at (512) 471-5954.
The
Externship Process
-
Review the Externship site and read
this page thoroughly to learn about the process.
- To register
for the Program:
- Go to the Externship homepage
- Select 'Login' and enter your EID
and password
- Once you have logged-in, click on
"Externship Profile" on the bottom of the left navigation bar
- Complete all three steps:
Acknowledgement, Profile, Release Form
- Save
and review the automated e-mail confirming Externship registration. If you do
not receive a confirmation email, your registration did not submit properly.
- Watch
for another email from us later in the semester to prepare for employer
selections.
- You
will choose an employer site on a first-come, first-served basis beginning in late
November.
- Once
you have selected an employer, you
will be obligated to participate as the Externship employer will be expecting you.
-
Attend your selected Externship on time – you must provide your own
transportation to and from the employer site.
- Have
fun!
Importance of Externship
Please
take Externship seriously – these employers are doing a favor for us to be able
to give you an idea of what it is like to work as an engineer. Be sure to
double-check your schedule for the winter break before you choose an
employer. Remember, you are representing yourself, the Cockrell School of Engineering,
and the University. Represent us well by arriving on time, showing enthusiasm,
and sending a thank-you note after the event.
Externship Emails
We will
communicate with you regarding Externship via email, so please be attentive and
take action when required. Remember that choosing an employer is done on a first-come,
first-served basis.
Although
we do our best to involve a wide variety of employers in major Texas cities, we
will not be able to accommodate everyone. Some students may not be able to
participate at all, based on the employers’ specified majors, number of students
desired, and location.
Networking Opportunity
The
Externship program is a good opportunity for you to network with recruiters, so
consider bringing your resume. However, keep in mind that some employers do not
view Externship as a recruiting event. Do not be disappointed if they don’t ask
for your resume. The experience will still be beneficial for you.
